Snugg…revisted! Mini ipad cover

Wednesday, March 27th, 2013

It’s not often that i get excited about a gadget. Who am I kidding! I want to shout this from the rooftop of somewhere very high! (Luigi from Disney Cars style). The gadget in question is my mini iPad which is going to be very necessary this summer at the festivals, where people who have run out of cash, wish to buy my sauces (and chocolates, oils etc) AND will be able to online, on my iPad! So…to protect it, from the international tour (YES-Holland is on the schedule!) and the UK dates, I needed something decent.

If you are regular to this blog, back in January I reviewed the iphone 5 case that a company called Snugg sent me. http://www.grimreaperfoods.com/blog/?p=181

I was also sent one for the ipad mini! And it is a cracker.Front iPad miniiPad openIMG_2306IMG_2307

As you can see from the images, it is leather and suede, very neat design, it also has a folding front cover which ‘wakes’ the ipad as you open it, as the Apple branded covers do. I am so impressed with it. I watch movies on the iPad too, and the 4th photo shows the way to use it as a stand. I have owned this cover a good 90 days now, and believe me, the photo’s were taken today, and it looks as good as the day I opened it. Robust and good looking! Again, as with my iPhone, I do tend to drop things, that said, a lot less when its this size, but has seen the floor once or twice by accident, and unscathed, remains to work effortlessly. By far the best cover I have ever owned for any gadget I have had, if they made a version for the iphone 5, I’d gladly snap one up! (HINT HINT).

How much? Well head over to http://www.thesnugg.co.uk/ipad-cases/ipad-mini-cases/snugg-ipad-mini-pu-leather-case-cover-and-flip-stand-in-black.aspx and grab one on spesh for £24.99 (RRP £39.99). Available in no less than 10-yes 10 options of colour/distressed look leathers, what are you waiting for?

Restaurant 65 Takeover…April 14th 2013

Monday, March 11th, 2013

I am pleased to announce that in partnership with restaurant 65’s owners, Grant and Gina Young, that a full on chilli menu is going to go ahead!

Where? Restaurant 65, Old High Street, Hemel Hempstead, Herts.
When? Sunday April 14th 2013, 7pm.
Why? Because we want to!

So, what is a restaurant takeover? Well, I get the chance to show off my chef skills, along with a chance how to show off the chillies, and my products. I always get, ‘but how do you use it?’, or ‘what do you eat it with?’ questions aside from ‘what’s the hottest?’. So I have created the menu to show off how my products can be used and I will decide how the dishes are being presented and to what heat level. Grant (the chef) will assist me sending the 7 course menu. 24 covers are available (how to book etc to follow) for the chilli extravaganza, or even grilled food  from the DiligentChef recipes online. I will not be presenting a major chilehead event for the gung-ho macho types (this time!) but a gourmet evening, so if you want blow your nuts off heat(and female equivalent of nuts) style menu, email me sales@grimreaperfoods.com to show your interest. The evening at restaurant 65 will have a certain heat level, but so everyone can finish the dishes, balanced and tasty!

All products will be available on the night to add to your table bill should you wish to buy any (save postal rates!).

Also, there will be gents from the Chilefoundry in attendance, so if you wish to be (or not!) interviewed during the evening for the site, let me know in advance. In addition, photo’s and video recording will be taking place for my website and upcoming YouTube channel. Any comments, reviews, and suggestions welcome! Again, should you not wish to appear in any photo or video please let me know, you will be asked on the evening too!

So, to book! you will need to email Gina@restaurant65.com and use the subject-Chilli Night! stating how many places you require. She’ll confirm by telephone, so please leave a number for contact. A 50% deposit will be taken of £15 to secure each place. The night is £29.99 for 7 courses includes arrival cocktail.

Menu here Sunday 14th April 2013 at Restaurant 65

Finally, thanks for reading, share with your friends and followers on Facebook and Twitter, to be in with a chance of a bar of Purgatory and Heavens Basement CD Filthy Empire!

Label overhaul

Sunday, December 9th, 2012

It’s been 2 years since the Evil One was released, and 18 months since Jekyll. I have two good friends, Nathan and Simon who helped me out by designing the labels, however I always wanted that in your face packaging that I went for with the chocolates (thanks to Beki and Carl) so here is a preview of the upcoming labels for the sauces, which will also feature for Rookie Goblin and new sauce Maverick in the New Year. Two more sauces will be released around April. The set will then be complete at 7.

The Evil One Anniversary Edition

Thursday, September 27th, 2012

Did you know that Halloween is the 2 year anniversary of the release of ‘The Evil One’ hot sauce? No? Well now you do! It’s also the day that Grim Reaper Foods started trading! So to celebrate this super calendar day, I am creating a special edition of 40 numbered bottles of the evil one, drizzled in red black and gold waxes stamped with blood red reaper on the top. Instead of the regular 1 million SHU oleoresin I normally use, I am going to use 12 million SHU oleoresin for a change, along with the fresh scotch bonnet and naga grown here in Bedford UK.
Keep an eye on the site as I will make and have these on the site but available on Halloween only-if they sell out or if any remain, they will only be available for 24 hours!

Twitter Facebook and the blog will be the only reminders from now on…..

FFUK 2012

Saturday, September 15th, 2012

So after a rubbish M25 journey I arrived to set up the stand at 4.40! I had 20 mins-no chance, even with help from Capsicinoia and Cambridge Chilli Farm to unload the motor (cheers again guys!). Shown to pitch inbetween Tim and Ian (spicy monkey) and after moving the car I reckon by 6 I was set.

Launching these three mustards exclusively here too!

Real family atmosphere between the traders which is great, Stacey, Simon, Nile, Rose, Tristam, Simon, Ged, Tim, Ian, Harry and Zoe last years amateur winners and Jason from year before also here, we 3 owe it to Pete to succeed as it was his amateur competition that was the springboard for me too. Pete Seymour, we’ll miss you and will make this and many more here in Brighton as good as they can be!

Will update again later..

So the festival with the chilli eating and tribute to Pete, national chilli awards both amateur and professional came and went-as a stall holder I found it very hard to leave and look around, so reporting about the show became more difficult than I imagined!

Thanks to @jamopepper for holding fort while I collected 2 national chilli awards!

And thanks to all who came saw and bought the reapers wares…

Frosts in Woburn Sands Augusts Bank Holiday 3 day Fiesta

Sunday, August 26th, 2012

Day One..

So……as the clock approaches 1am I have finally managed to cook up another batch of Jekyll after the onslaught today. THANK YOU people who came, tasted, and cleared us out of Jekyll, Evil One, Alchemy and almost Rookie Goblin! Wow-I must say our best single day trading to date. Ok, so….the day started for us at 7am-car loaded, arrived around 8am and coffee tea bags served as soon as we walk in. Quick Hi to Tim from CCF then set up started. The rush commenced around 11.30 and stopped around 5, Mrs Reaper having to nip to the shops for more breadsticks! Frosts-yet again-decent show-looked after us and delivered the customers as promised! Round two in 7 hours…

Day Two..

Battered again, this evening I have had to make more ‘Evil One’ as the crowds have certainly got a good tolerance here in Milton Keynes for the hot stuff! Missed Tim today…But again, 1am, bedtime after a long long day..

Day Three..

I must say a big THANK YOU to Simon and Gabi from Frosts, along with everyone else who helped put this show together. Met some new friends, Cha Cha Chilli, Wobbly Bottom Cheeses, Devil’s Dynamite, and Capsaicinoia, to name a few. A fantastic festival for us, and hopefully for all those who came. Roll on next weekend in Oxford at Millets Farm, another Frosts venue…

Blaze of Glory

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

20120822-201624.jpg

Well after a short delay, I’m very pleased to say that our newest product ‘Blaze of Glory’ will launch this weekend with a ltd pre label edition as seen here. I’m extremely excited about this launch as its purely a public outing with only a handful of people having tasted it in development.

The Death or Glory Ale is made down the road in The Tring Brewery, a 7.2% ABV Ale and what an ale it is. At double the quantity of any other ingredient in the mustard it packs a nice aroma. I had to mellow the final recipe with some sticky sweet honey as the habanero and beer combo, albeit superb in my humble opinion, was a tad too bitter. Well, decide for yourselves this weekend. At £4 for a 180g jar, or mix and match in our show only 3 for £10 across our range, Blaze of Glory should be your next Grim Reaper product.
